Urban Future Simulation: Developing Skills in Strategy Execution, Growth and Sustainability

In our Urban Future simulation, participants are tasked with leading the execution of a green, smart city strategy in sub-Saharan Africa.
Their aim is to develop resilient, eco-friendly urban hubs that not only address the pressing environmental challenges but also enhance the quality of life for millions, creating long-term sustainable value for both their company and the communities they serve.
Leadership of the cross-functional team assigned to the initiative is pivotal in realising the vision of sustainable urban development across sub-Saharan Africa within the planned time scale and budget. The goal is to maximise the long-term value created. An assessment of this expected value is calculated when participants finish the simulation on the basis of:
- the time taken to deliver the completed roll-out
- the amount spent on the initiative
- how well what is delivered meets the needs of customers, clients and users
- the support of all internal and external stakeholders for the initiative, which will ensure its long-term success
Participants work in small teams to manage the personnel and financial resources assigned to the initiative phases, communicate with the principal stakeholders, and make decisions on foreseen and unexpected events.
During the simulation, participants can communicate with stakeholders using simulated meetings, phone calls and emails, along with other methods of interaction. Visual dashboards enable teams to assess the progress of their strategy and the impact on the stakeholders involved.
Participants must deal with several challenges, including adapting designs to diverse local climates, navigating varying regulatory landscapes, and ensuring meaningful engagement with local communities. These obstacles provide opportunities for teams to innovate and demonstrate the flexibility and scalability of their solutions.
The immersive simulation helps individuals develop critical skills in profiling and prioritising stakeholders. Participants also gain an in-depth understanding of how team motivation impacts strategy implementation success.
